May 2020 Monthly Horoscope
This month is all about the retrogrades, babes! Before the end of the month, we’re dealing with 40% of the planets in retrograde. When a planet goes retrograde, we often experience conflict or “backward” movement in the areas of the life that planet rules. Just like last May, the normally steady and dependable Taurus is being shaken up by unpredictable energy. When the karmic True Node makes a rare shift into Gemini March 5th, our possibilities open up even more, and we might have a hard time finding stable ground.
The Full Moon in Scorpio on the 7th is very well a highlight of the month. In fact, it’s the second supermoon of the year. Full Moons are times of culmination and fulfillment (and supermoons even more so), but that’s no guarantee we’ll like what we see. Because Scorpio is a sign of powerful Plutonian feeling, this calls for releasing something, no matter how daunting it may seem.
Not even a week later, Saturn stations retrograde in the sign of Aquarius. We will all need to review our relationships, long-term goals, responsibilities, and duties. This retrograde is interesting because it travels over Aquarius and Capricorn over the period of a few months, drawing in themes from both signs. Another reason this retrograde is so powerful is because Saturn has rulership over both of these signs. As it stands, the lessons we learn will be hard, and shortcuts won’t get us anywhere, but the rewards are sure to be tangible and abundant.
Venus follows suit, stationing retrograde in Gemini on May 11th. Everyone’s love life may be due for a shakeup or two over the next month. The best way to survive this disturbance is by practicing lots of self-care. Indulge in activities that leave you feeling good about yourself! On a more positive note, this retrograde activity almost always results in a refined perspective. The heart is a delicate thing, but Venus retrograde challenges us to acknowledge whether our heart is open or blocked.
It is also going to be a month of potentially brilliant healing thanks to the entrance of Mars into empathetic Pisces on the 13th. This is an unignorable call to channel our energy into conscious doing and being. Dream big! We’ll be more likely to opt for indirect action and drifting rather than forcing our way. The passionate energy of Mars in such a spiritually inclined sign means we’ll be awakening to the divinity and magic inside each of us.
Even better, the communication issues that Venus retrograde brings are smoothed out by Mercury’s transit through Gemini. From May 11th onward, we’re inclined to be more curious and sociable. With Mercury right at home in the sign it rules, we quickly grasp new concepts. But that also means we lose interest just as quickly. This, coupled with the Mars in Pisces, could mean both daydreaming and distractions if you don’t have an active creative outlet.
Jupiter’s rare retrograde in Capricorn on the 14th means we need to take stock of our lives and rethink the paths we are following. We’ll be more thoughtful and inclined to review our life principles. In the sign of Capricorn, Jupiter retrograde brings esoteric, spiritual, and metaphysical themes in ways that alter our structural reality. This is a time to audit what we’ve learned and gained from our tangible studies and mind-expanding experiences.
We also have Pallas stationing retrograde in Aquarius on the 17th, just a few days after the Last Quarter Moon in the same sign. In astrology, the asteroid Pallas is intricately linked to our creative abilities and innate healing wisdom. This asteroid is about how we handle bumps in the road, so this is a time to take a second look at our fear of failure and success.
With the Sun entering Gemini on the 20th, we are motivated by knowledge and diversity. This high amount of activity in the chatty air sign makes us more sociable, intellectual, and curious. However, you do have to watch for becoming unreliable or distractible. Our minds and mouths are million a hundred miles a minute, but you’ll have to be careful not to waste words on things that’ll get you into trouble later.
Another reason we’ll be so hungry to learn is the New Moon, also in Gemini, on the 22nd. As we approach the beginning of this new lunar cycle, we’ll have all sorts of ideas about what we can start next. For this mutable air sign, possibilities are endless. The Mars in Pisces adds a boundless infinite touch to these ideas but try to remain realistic if you can.
What has worked for you in the past? What hasn’t? These themes will be prominent now.
To close out this complicated month, Mercury leaves Gemini and enters the waters of Cancers. Thinking on a deeper level comes naturally although there’s a tendency to let feelings take over. That might not be a bad thing as long as we can contemplate the things that make us feel the most vulnerable.
