Isopsephia
Isopsephia from the Greek word gematria is a system devised by the Greeks to allocate each letter a numerical equivalent. It uses Pythagorean methods and astrological elements within its workings. All words using the Isopsephia structure are added together and decreased until a single digit is reached. The word for Earth reduces to the number 1, the letters of Water are reduced to the number 3. Air calculates to the number 9 and Fire will reduce to 12 or 3. The words for Fire and Water can both be calculated to 3 and this is an early example of the connection between them.
