Nycthemeron
In astrological texts the word Nycthemeron is written in reference to the course of the natural day and night. It represents a period of 24 hours and is often seen among comments about the Equinox or Solstice occurrences. Nycthemeron is translated from the ancient Greek words nyktos for night and hemera meaning day. This is a rare word that was penned when a new day was commonly believed to begin at sunset rather than commence at sunrise. In some religions today the concept of each day beginning at sunset still applies and so the name Nycthemeron is still relevant.
