Born on January 24, 1943, Sharon Marie Tate was a sex symbol during the 1960s. She played small roles on television and appeared in motion pictures, modeled in fashion magazines and on commercials. Sharon received positive reviews for her comedic performances and was known as one of Hollywood's most interesting newcomers. Her film debut was in Eye of the devil (1966) and she played Jennifer North in Valley of the Dolls (1967). This role eared Sharon a Golden Globe Award nomination.
She married Roman Polanski in 1968 and was almost nine months pregnant with their son when she was murdered by the Manson Family on August 9, 1969. Sharon"s last film 12+1 (The Thirteen Chairs) starring Orson Welles was released after her death in 1969.
Sharon moved to Italy with her family she discovered her picture was on the cover of Starts and Stripes. Sharon became interested in film while watching the making of Adventures of a Young Man with Paul Newman. She obtained a part as a film extra. In 1961 Sharon worked with Pat Boone and appeared in his television specials in Venice. Due to Sharon's inexperience and timid nature, she was passed over for many roles until Eye of the Devil with David Niven.
After returning to the U.S. Sharon made Don't Make Waves with Tony Curtis. Allegedly Sharon was the inspiration for the Malibu Barbie doll. She also worked as a model for Coppertone. In 1966 Sharon had a walk on part in Rosemary's Baby and photographs by Esquire magazine gave her considerable publicity.
In 1969 Sharon began filming The Wrecking Crew, a comedy that would showcase Sharon's talents. She did her own stunts and learned martial arts from Bruce Lee. Sharon married Roman Polanski in 1969 and they subsequently moved to 10050 Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon, a house that was previously occupied by Candice Bergen and Terry Melcher. Sharon and Roman were popular hosts for strange visitors and they loved to party.
Sharon returned to Los Angeles from London to wait for the birth of her baby. Frykowski and Folger stayed with Sharon to keep her company. The night of August 8, 1969 Sharon was murdered by members of Charles Manson's family and her body was found with a rope tied around her neck. Sharon had been stabbed sixteen. She was buried with her baby in her arms.
