Being born in Scotland is awesome especially if you are an actor born on March 31, 1971. Ewan Gordon McGregor is recognized for his roles in Transpotting in 1996, in the Star Wars prequel trilogy from 1999 to 2005 as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and in the musical Moulin Rouge in 2001. He was Edward Bloom in Big Fish in 2003 and received acclaim for his roles in theater for Guys and Dolls and Othello.
As Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith McGregor took care to match his acting to Alec Guinness' version. Also in 2005 he lent his voice to Robots and Valiant. He played in The Island and in Stay. 2006 was extremely busy as he narrated the Astronaut for the National Space Centre as well as the STV show JetSet. In 2007 McGregor was in Cassandra's Dream and in 2009 he starred with Jim Carrey in I Love You Phillip Morris. He appeared in Amelia with Hilary Swank and portrayed the Camerlengo in Angels & Demons.
McGregor has played Little Malcolm and His Struggles against the Eunuchs, The Play What I Wrote, Guys and Dolls, and Othello on stage. He was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2007.
McGregor and Eve Mavrakis, a French production designer are currently married. They have four daughters; two are adopted. McGregor is involved in UNICEF and GO Campaign. He works with the Children's Hospice Association of Scotland and starred in the documentary Ewan McGregor: Cold Chain Mission. He was appointed officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 for his services to charity and drama.
