Richard Starkey was born on July 7, 1940 in Liverpool England. He would be known as Ringo Starr drummer for the legendary Beatles. He sang and wrong songs including With a Little Help from My Friends and Octopus's Garden. Starr started his career playing percussion in in a band that uses common objects instead of regular musical instruments. Later his stepfather purchased a drum set for Starr and he went on to play with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes in the 1950s.
Starr joined the Beatles in 1962 and their first album Please Please Me in 1963 sent was a pop sensation in the UK. In 1964 the Beatles crossed the pound and Beatlemania was in full force. I Want to Hold Your Hand was followed by many hits. They filmed A Hard Days' Night in1964 and their next film adventure was Help! in 1965. Starr sang Act Naturally. Ringo Starr provide humor and stability to the band. He was an equal part of the Beatles and his influence on generation of drummers can still be seen today. In 1966 the Beatles stopped touring and their last concert was at San Francisco's Candlestick Park. The continued to record and created Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967. Personal and creative tensions eroded the group and the stars spend time on other projects. Starr starred in The Magic Christian in 1969. He played with the Beatles in 1969 for Let it Be. In 1970 Paul McCartney left the group and Starr went on to pursue a solo career.
Starr's firs solo album was Sentimental Journey in 1970 and Beaucoup of Blues in 1971. His greatest success as a solo performer was with Ringo in 1973 which featured You're Sixteen.
He directed the documentary Born to Boogie in 1972 and appeared in 200 Motels, That'll Be the Day in 1973 and Son of Dracula in 1974. He starred in Caveman in 1981. Starr also played with Paul McCartney in Give My Regards to Broad Street in 1984 and he was the narrator for Thomas the Tank Engine.
In 2013 Starr published Photograph which featured never before seen pictures of the Beatles. In 2014 he reunited with Paul McCartney at the Emmys and wowed the audience.
He has been married twice. Maureen Cox from 1965 to 1975 and they produced three children. He is currently married to Barbara Bach (1981).
