Tom Hanks

Born Thomas Jeffrey Hanks on July 9, 1956 in Concord California, Tom Hanks was born to a Portuguese mother and grew up in a fractured family. He moved around after his parent's divorce and was a confused child. He had no acting experience when he went downtown in Concord and auditioned for a community theater play. He was invited to go to Cleveland and this is where he started his acting career. He appeared in Bosom Buddies in 1980 (television) and began directing in the film That Thing You Do in 1996.
In 1998 he was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Award for his work in the movie Saving Private Ryan. Hanks has won Best Actor Oscars for his work in Forrest Gump in 1994 and Philadelphia in 1993. In 1995 he was voted the best actor by US Magazine. He played the lead in Splash in 1984 and gained 30 pounds for A League of Their Own in 1992. In 1995 Hanks played Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 and in 2000 he gained and lost 50 lbs for his role in Cast Away. Hanks has also had the leading roles in Catch Me If You Can in 2002 and The Terminal in 2004. In 2004 he played the lead role in the computer animated film The Polar Express which was highly publicized for it use of digital actors.
Hanks was considered for a razzie for his performance in The Da Vinci Code in 2006 as well as his performance in The Terminal and The Ladykillers in 2004). Yet Premiere Magazine rank Hands as #28 on their list of greatest movie stars of all time. Hanks is an environmental conservationist and support natural causes.
His good friend Meg Ryan and Hanks have starred in three movies together: Sleepless in Seattle in 1993, Joe Versus the Volcano in 1990 and You've Got Mail in 1998. He was awesome in The Green Mile in 1999, Forrest Gump in 1994 and Dragnet in 1987. Hanks married Samantha Lewes on January 24, 1978 and they divorced in 1987. They have a daughter and a son. Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks married in 1988. They have two sons.
