Mary Louise Streep was born in 1949 in New Jersey. She is known as Meryl Streep and is one of the greatest actress still living. Meryl has been nominated for an Oscar 17 times and won it three times. She originally wanted to be in opera, but turned to acting instead.
Meryl's first film was Julia in 1977 and the next year her role in The Deer Hunter won her an Oscar nomination. She has won the Academy Award for Kramer vs Kramer (1979) and played the lead role in Sophie's Choice in 1982.
Meryl is a perfectionist and meticulously prepares for all her roles. Her hard work has can be seen in Silkwood in 1983, Out of Africa in 1985, Ironweed in 1987 and A Cry in the Dark 1988. She did not like the parts she was offered in the early 1990s, but gave rave performances in 1995 in The Bridges of Madison County, and as the uncontrolled daughter in Marvin's Room in 1996. She was the executive producer for First Do No Harm in 1997.
Meryl has been named Best Modern Actress in an Entertainment Weekly online poll, learned to play the violin for her role in Music of the Heart (1999) and was listed as one of 12 Promising New Actors of 1977.
In 2009 she gained 15 pounds to play Julia in the movie Julie & Julia and had a great time filming Mamma Mia in 2008. Meryl is only one of four thespians to be nominated for acting by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Best of all, Meryl claims to have a photographic memory. She is currently the spokesperson for the Center for Reproductive Rights Draw the Line Campaign. This is a global legal organization dedicated to advancing women's reproductive health, and basic dignity.
Streep earned her third Best Actress Oscar for The Iron Lady (2011). Meryl is rehearsing Into the Woods (2014).
She is currently married to Don Grummer, a sculptor, and has four children. Her daughter Mammie is following in her footsteps and has appeared in film.
