Steven Soderbergh

Steven Soderbergh was born January 14, 1963 in Atlanta Georgia but moved to Baton Rouge at a very young age. He enrolled at Louisiana State University's film animation class while still in high school and made short 16-millimeter films. He is known as an American screenwriter, cinematographer, producer and director.
In 1986 the rock band Yes assigned Soderbergh to shoot a full length concert film. This film earned him a Grammy nomination for the video, Yes: 9012 Live (1985). He then filmed Winston that was later made into Sex, Lies, and Video Tape (1989). This film earned him a Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Soderbergh is known for directing Kafka (1991) King of the Hill (19913) and Grays' Anatomy (1996). In 1998 Soderbergh made Out of Sight. In 2000 Soderbergh directed Erin Brockovich (2000) and Traffic (2000). Both films were nominated for Best Picture at the 2001 Academy Awards. He did win the Oscar for Best Director for Traffic (2000).
Soderbergh was married to Betsy Brantley and has one child. He is currently married to Jules Asner.
His directorship in films lead to three Oscar nominating for his stars: Julia Roberts, Benicio de Toro and Albert Finney. He was a member of the jury at Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival and is on the jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
