MC Solaar

MC Solaar was born Claude M'Barali on March 5, 1969. He is a French hip hop and rap artist. He uses word play and lyricism in his raps. He has released seven studio records and still lives in France. His parents were from Chad and when he was tiny he immigrated to France. He went to Cairo to live with an uncle in Cairo when he was 12. Here he discovered the Zulu Nation and became captivated with rapping. His handle MC Solaar comes from his graffiti handles SOAR and SOLAAR.
He released his first rap single in 1990, Bouge de la or Get Out of My Way. 1991 saw Solaar releasing Qui Seme le Vent Recolte le Temp which sold 400,000 copies in France. He toured Poland and Russia and performed in West Africa in 1992. In1994 he recorded Prose Combat. It became a best seller in 20 countries. He was recognized as Best Male Singer of the Year at the 10th edition of the French Victories de la Musique. He also appeared on Red Hot Organizations compilation album Stolen Moments: Red Hot + Cool.
In1997 he recorded Paradisiaque. The 2000s were kind to Solaar and he recorded Chapter 7 in 2007 and Magnum 567 in 2010. He is currently married to Chloe Bensemoun and they have two children.
