Matthew's first jobs after graduating from high school were shoveling chicken manure washing dishes in Australia. He came home and entred the University of Texas and studied law. When he read The Greatest Salesman in the World he changed from law to film. He began his acting career in 1991 and also directs short films.
Matthew was born on November 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas and still praises his Texas roots. His first film was Dazed and Confused in 1993 and he was encouraged to do improvisations. In 1995 Matthew had a lead role in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. He moved to Los Angeles and was in the 1966 film Lone Star and in the film adaptation of a Time to Kill. H next played in Contact in1 997 and Amistad in 1997.
In the Newton Boys in 1998 he was a bank robber set in the town of Uvalde, Texas. He wrote directed and starred in the short The Rebel in 1998. He played in U-571 in 2000 and played a comedy part in The Wedding Planner in 2001. He was cute in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days in 2003 and he shaved his head to play in Reign of Fire in 2002. He accepted the Oscar for Best Actor in 2014 for his portrayal in the Dallas Buyers Club. He gave his catchphrase "alright, alright, alright" after his speech. He is married to Camila Alves McConaughey and they have three children.
