If you meet Vincent Damon Furnier born on February 4, 1948 in Detroit Michigan you will definitely be shocked. Alice Cooper is a shock rock singer, musician and songwriter. His career spans over five decades. His stage shows feature boa constrictors and baby dolls, electric chairs, guillotines, and fake blood. He draws his acts from horror movies, garage rock and vaudeville.
Alice Cooper was initially the name of a band that consisted of Michael Bruce, Glen Buxton, Dennis Dunaway and Furnier. This band broke into the music stream in 1971 with I'm Eighteen from the album Love It to Death. Their next single School's Out in 1972 was even bigger. They reached their peak in 1973 with the album Billion Dollar Babies.
Furnier took on the band's name in the 1970s and started a solo career with the 1975 album Welcome to My Nightmare. He released Welcome 2 My Nightmare in 2011. This was his 19th album and his 26th album in total. Cooper is very witty and social. He is known as the world's most cherished heavy metal artist. Cooper is a film actor, golfing celebrity and restaurateur when he is not Alice Cooper, crazy guy.
The band and Alice Cooper gained their reputation for shock at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival in 1969. The band was prepared to throw feathers all over Cooper when a chicken wandered onto the stage. Cooper, thinking chickens could fly, threw it into the audience. People in the first three rows tore it to pieces. Tabloids claimed that Cooper bit off the chicken's head and drank its blood. Cooper denied it. Advice from his mentor, "don't let anyone know you didn't do it."
During the mid-2000s Cooper was awarded the Rock Immortal Award, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003 and an honorary doctoral degree from Grand Canyon University in 2004. He was given the key to the city of Alice, North Dakota in 2006 and won the living legend award at the 2006 Classic Rock Roll of Honor event.
He made Brutal Planet in 2000 which was his return to horror heavy metal. Cooper released The Eyes of Alice Cooper in 2003. He began a radio show Nights with Alice Cooper in 2004 that showcased his history.
In 2010 Cooper appeared on American Idol and scored the music for Silas Gore. He was himself in the 2012 Tim burton film of Dark Shadows. He has an album coming out in the spring of 2014 and will open for Motley Crue's final tour. Alice has been married to Sheryl Cooper since 1976. They have three children.
