Born on August 9, 1957 in New York City, Melanie Richards Griffith is the daughter to model Tippi Hedren and Peter Griffith. She grew up with lions and tigers used in the movie Roar in 1981. She began to model at nine months and later appeared in Smith in 1986. When Melanie was only 15 when she moved in with Don Johnson and in 1976 they were married. They divorced six months later. She played in the film Night Moves in 1975. Melanie was addicted to drugs and alcohol and she was no longer considered for acting roles. She finally received a part in the TV movie She's in the Army Now in 1981. He second husband helped her overcome her additions and paid for acting classes.
She was cast as a porno actress in Body Double in 1984 and in Something Wild in 1986. She received Golden Globe nominations for both movies. Melanie and Bauer divorced in 1987 and they had one child.
Her part in Working Girl in 1988 set her career on high but she continued to suffer from drug and alcohol. She was ordered to rehab, called Don Johnson for support and they remarried in 1989. They had one daughter Dakota Johnson.
Melanie worked on her film career with Pacific Heights in1990, The Bonfire of the Vanities in 1990 and in Shining Through in 1992. She played a detective in A Stranger Among Us in 1992 and flopped with Born Yesterday in 1993 and Milk Money in 1994.
Melanie divorced Johnson in 1995 for Antonio Banderas her co-star from Too Much in 1995. Banderas and Melanie have a daughter Stella and Melanie went on to play in Another Day in Paradise in 1998. She was in Celebrity in 1998 and played in RKO 281 in 1999. She won a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination for this part. Melanie runs a charity for Tippi's Shambala preserve and a non-profit for benefiting burned children.
