John F Kennedy

Born on May 29, 1917, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States and served from January 1961 until he was assassinated in November 1963. During WWII Kennedy was a leader of Motor Torpedo Boats PT-109 and PT-19 in the South Pacific. He was a representative to the Massachusetts 11th Congressional District from 1947 to 1953. Kennedy served in the US. Senate from 1953 until 1960. He defeated Vice President Richard Nixon in the 1960 Presidential election and at the age of 43 he was the youngest man to be elected to the office.
Kennedy managed the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Space Race and The Cuban Missile Crisis. He initiated Project Apollo, sanctioned the Berlin Wall and worked for the African American Civil Rights Movement. He increased U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. He also initiated the Peace Corps which is volunteer program where Americans can help underdeveloped nations. Since 1961 over 200,000 Americans have joined the Peace Corps. He initiated ties with Israel and is the founder of the US-Israeli military alliance. He lifted the arms embargo that Eisenhower placed on Israel and introduced a special relationship concept.
The Kennedy era backed the coup against the government of Iraq and accepted honorary degrees from the National University of Ireland and Trinity College in Dublin. Kennedy worked with the Soviet Union to ban nuclear arms. He loosened the monetary policy in the U.S. to keep interest rates down and was the president who watch the budget top the $1000 billion mark.
Kennedy had health problems while he was in government and he was always unfaithful. He still ranks high in public opinion ratings possibly due to his death at such a young age. Kennedy was diagnosed with Addison's disease a rare endocrine disorder. He suffered from chronic back pain and was treated by controversial methods.
Jack Kennedy married Jacqueline Lee Bouvier and they had four children. One was a miscarriage, one was a still birth and two survived infancy. Tragedy has always followed the Kennedy's with the death of Joe Jr who died in WWII, Bobby who died due to an assassination, and Ted who had many brushes with death and scandal. Caroline Kennedy is the only surviving member of JFK's immediate family. John Kennedy died in a plane crash in 1999.
