Lenny Kravitz

One very talented song-writer, singer, instrumentalist, record producer, arranger and actor is Leonard Albert or Lenny Kravitz born on May 26, 1964 in New York City. His mother is Helen Willis who played on The Jeffersons for many years. His father Sy Kravitz was a Russian Jew who was originally from the Ukraine. Kravitz uses R&B, funk, hard rock, reggae, rock, soul, folk and ballads in his work. He often sings lead and generally plays all the guitar, bass, keyboards, bass, and percussion when recording.
Kravitz was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in the years 1999 to 2002. Kravitz has also won the American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Award, BRIT Awards, Blockbuster Entertainment Awards and Radio Music Awards. In 2011 Lenny Kravitz was awarded the Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Among his other talents is acting and he is Cinna in the Hanger Games.
Kravitz's debut record was Let Love Rule in 1989 which included rock and funk with a 1960s beat. Kravitz opened for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Bob Dylan and David Bowie. Kravitz produced Justify My Love for Madonna which he co-wrote. Lenny also produced the album Vanessa Paradis where he played most of the instruments and co-wrote the music. He released his second album Mama Said which quickly reached the Top 40. He wrote and sang It Ain't Over "Til It's Over, Always on the Run, Stand by My Woman and What Goes Around Comes Around.
He wrote Line Up for Aerosmith, Wandering Spirit for Mick Jagger and Use Me on David Bowie's The Buddha of Suburbia. He also worked with Al Green and Curtis Mayfield. He continued working through the 2000s with Lenny in 2001 and a Grammy win in 2002. He appears on the Bad Boys II soundtrack with P.Diddy, Pharrell and Loon. He is also featured on Unity, the album of the 2004 Athens Olympics and performed Have You Ever Been (To electric Ladyland) on the album Power of Soul: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix.
Kravitz has a design studio named Kravitz Design. One of his pieces is a chandelier for the company Swarovski named Casino Royale. He performed during halftime of the Jets-Patriots Thanksgiving game in 2012. Kravitz is a Christian and also Jewish. He carries a tattoo, "My Heart Belongs to Jesus Christ." Kravitz married Lisa Bonet in 1987, they had one daughter, but were divorced in 1993.
