Actor, singer and comedian Dino Paul Crocetti born on June 7, 1917 in Steubenville, Ohio earned his living as a prizefighter, gas station attendant, and steel mill laborer. He was also a card shark until 1946 when he teamed with Jerry Lewis. The comedy duo starred in At War with the Army in 1950, which gave the team a huge leap toward stardom.
After Martin and Lewis broke up Dean Martin went on to win critical acclaim for his role in The Young Lions and Some Came Running in 1958. During the 1960s Martin proved to be a potent draw for films such as Bells Are Ringing, and Robin and the 7 Hoods. He played in a series of films as Matt Helm and he also had his own television variety show plus Airport in 1970 and The Cannonball Run in 1981. He returned to the stage on tour with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.
Martin was in the first run off Ocean's Eleven in 1960 and he later went on to act in Sergeants 3 in 1962, Toys in the Attic in 1963 and Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? in 1963. His television variety show The Dean Martin Comedy Hour in 1964 until 1973 won a Golden Globe Award. His program The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts in 1985 was one of the funniest shows on television. In 1987 Martin went into seclusion after the death of his son Dean Paul Martin. He spent his remaining years as solitary may and died on Christmas Day in 1995.
Martin was married to Elizabeth Anne McDonald from 1941 until 1949 and they had four children. He married Jeanne Martin in 1949 until 1973 when they divorced. They had three children. Martin was married to Catherine Haws from 1973 until 1976 when they divorced. They had one child.
