Emily Bronte

Emily Jane Bronte was born July 30, 1919 in Yorkshire. She was the fifth child of six children. Emily and her sister Anne wrote poetry and stories for an imaginary world that they titled Gondal. There are very few surviving writings of this period in Emily's life. After returning home from Brussels, where Emily and Charlotte were taught French, music and German, Emily continued with her secret writings and began her only novel, Wuthering Heights.
Charlotte Bronte learned of Emily's poems and persuaded her to contain them in to a single book of poems. In 1946 under the penname of Currer Ellis and Acton Bell, this book of poems was published. There are 21 poems written by Emily Bronte and Charlotte contributed a goodly number to the volume. Emily's only novel Wuthering Heights was published in December 1947. It was criticized as a mediocre novel, but later critics claim that this novel was the beginning of the romanticism period of literature. The novel is characterized by romance, mysticism and spirituality. The insight and characters in this novel are visionary, well-rounded and highly believable. Wuthering Heights is required reading in classical novel classes.
Emily suffered from poor health in 1847 and on December 18m 1848 she passed away. Emily was only 30 years old.
