Born on September 25, 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Michael Kirk Douglas is well worth over $2000 million. His father was Kirk Douglas was a huge film star and his wife is currently a well-known actress (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
Douglas wanted to be an actor from the time he was a teenager, but his father was opposed to an acting career. He started acting in film in the mid-1960s and played roles that were sensitive, and quiet. Douglas made his film debut in Cast a Giant Shadow in 1966 but his major role was with Karl Malden on The Streets of San Francisco in 1972. He left the series to produce One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in 1975.
Douglas acted in comedies Romancing the Stone in 1985 and The Jewel of the Nile in 1985. He turn to The War of the Roses in 1989 but it was in Basic Instinct in 1992 that made him a hit. He played in Fatal Attraction in 1987 which was very similar to Basic Instinct. Disclosure in 1994 returned Douglas to man against women roles. In 1995 Douglas was The American President and The Ghost and the Darkness followed in 1996. In 2000 Douglas played in the comedy Wonder Boys and It Runs in the Family in 2003 were flops.

Douglas has undergone chemotherapy and radiation for a tumor in his throat. To date he has made a complete recovery. In 2012 Douglas was inducted into the 2012 New Jersey Hall of Fame for his work in the Arts and Entertainment fields.
Douglas played Liberace in 2013 in the movie Behind the Candelabra and is currently working on And So It Goes and Ant-Man (to be released in 2015).
