One of Australia's imports, Hugh Michael Jackman was born on October 12, 1968 in Sydney Australia. He was the youngest of five children and has a communications degree with a journalism major from the University of Technology Sydney. He took up drama at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and was almost immediately offered a role in the ABC-TV drama Corelli in 1995. He played in several more guest roles and used his accomplished voice in the Australian production of Beauty and the Beast. He was Joe Willis in the Australian Sunset Boulevard.
In 1998 Jackman was Curly in the Royal National Theatre's Oklahoma. His feature films include Erskineville Kings in 1999 and the X-Men in 2000. He has also acted with Halle Berry in Swordfish, Van Helsing with Kate Beckinsale and in Scoop. He won a Tony in The Boy from Oz in 2004 and was People's Sexiest Man Alive in 2008. Jackman has sang in Les Miserable and at the end of 2013 finished promoting his thriller Prisoners.
In 2014 Jackman lite up the Empire State Building for Australia Da and is returning to Broadway with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). Jackman will host the 68th Annual Tony Awards on June 8.
Jackman married Deborra-Lee Furness in 1996 and they are still married with two children.
