Philip David Charles Collins more popularly known as Phil Collins was born January 30, 1951 in London, England. He has always been an entertainer, actor and model. As a very young lad he played the Artful Dodger in Oliver. He drummed with a stage band "The Real Thing" in school and joined "Flaming Youth." He worked on an album with this group but the disbanded after their recording. He joined Genesis and became their lead singer in 1975.
Collins recorded his first solo album after separating from his first wife. The album was successful and his song "In the Air Tonight" (Miami Vice 1985) made him a household name.
Currently Collins works his solo career as a singer, drummer and recording artist. He works Genesis, Brand X and his own Swing Band. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.
Collins has US number one singles with Against All Odds, One More Night, Separate Lives and A Groovy Kind of Love. Collins has sold over 130 million albums as a part of Genesis and over 100 million solo albums. He has achieved high marks as a solo artist and was listed for 235 weeks on the singles chart.
Phil Collins founded The Little Dreams Foundation in 2000 with a mission statement to realize the dreams of children in sports and art. He supports children from 4 to 16 with financial, mentoring, and material support. He is also part of the South African charity The Topsy Foundation that gives relief services to under resourced rural communities in South Africa.
Collins was married three times and has five children.
