Harry Rodger Webb, Peter Pan of Pop or Cliff Richard was born on October 14, 1940 in India. He is known as the Elvis Presley of Britain. His first film Serious Charge in 1959, Expresso Bongo in 1959 and Wonderful to Be Young in 1961 plus Summer Holiday in 1963 brought Richard to the attention of Britains and overseas audiences. Cliff was a major pop star in Britain before films. His film Swinger's Paradise in 1964 was nice, but not successful. He has nearly 50 hit singles in the UK charts and is very popular as a pop star in most parts of the world.
His solo, We don't Talk Anymore in 1979 sold five million copies worldwide and his music compilation Private Collection in 1988 sold a couple of million. Richards has more top #1 hits than any other artist and is the third artist after Presley and The Beatles with the higher number of #1 hits in the UK.
For his services to music he was awarded the O.B.E. or Office of the Order of the British Empire in 1980. It is estimated that Cliff Richard has sold 250 million albums during his career. Richards has also won the Brit Award for Outstanding Contributions in 1989, British Phonographic Industry Award for British Male Solo Artist in 1982 and the British Record Industry Award for British Male Solo artist in 1977. He was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame (2004).
Richards has never married and since his conversion to Christianity in 1966 he claims to be celibate.
