Diana Spencer was born July 1, 1961 to an aristocratic English family. She married Charles, Prince of Wales on July 29, 1981 to a global television audience of over 750 people. She is the mother of William and Harry who are second and third in the line of succession to the British throne.

Diana was the darling of England and she worked unending for international charities. Her storybook wedding was continually under worldwide media scrutiny which may have been one of the reasons for her divorce from the Prince of Wales on August 28, 1998.

Diana was never a good student but she was an accomplished pianist, excelled in swimming and diving and studied ballet. She nannied, worked as a pre-school assistant, and acted as a hostess at parties. Diana and Charles met at a country weekend and on February 6, 1981 Price Charles proposed.

Diana traveled extensively as the Princes of Wales but she always made time for her children and negotiated her public duties around William and Harry's schedules. During her travels with the Prince, Diana always visited orphanages, hospitals and her signature charities. After her divorce form Charles, Diana remained patron of Centrepoint, Leprosy Mission and The International AIDS Trust. She was also involved in the English National Ballet and Royal Marsden Hospital.

Diana was involved with Major James Hewitt and the Price reignited his romance with Camilla Parker Bowles. These affairs were exposed in a book, Diana: Her True Story. In an interview Diana once said that her marriage was very crowded due to Charles' affair with Bowles. After the divorce Diana was still regarded as part of the royal family even when she began seeing Dodi Fayed son of a Middle-Eastern billionaire.

Diana's death in a car accident was caused by the driver's drunken loss of control plus constant harassment by the paparazzi. Millions of people mourned the death of Diana and her funeral on September 6, 1997 was watched by millions. She is named one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century. Elton John's song Candle in the Wind was written for her.
