Born on December 12 1940 I n East Orange New Jersey, Marie Dionne Warrick is known for her renditions of The Wine is Young, Check Out Time, Wives and Loves, Only Love Can Break a Heart, They Long to Be Close to You and Don't Go Breaking My Heart. She formed the Gospelaires with Dee Dee Warwick and Cissy Houston as a teen and they sang at church meetings and community gatherings. Warwick began singing at age 6 at her Baptist Church.
Dionne won five Grammy Awards and earned 18 top -20 U.S. hits. Most of these hits were written by Burt Bacharach. She was a mezzo-soprano but her voice has since deepened due to smoking and age. She now sings in the contralto range.
Dionne and Whitney Houston her cousin were welcomed into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2013. This was for their service to entertainment and the arts. She also has a start on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame for her recordings.
Dionne was married to William Elliott from 1966 to 1967. They divorced and she married William Elliott in 1967 until December 1975. They divorced and had two children.
