Lady Jayne Seymour Fonda, or simply Jane Fonda, made her appearance on 21 December 1937 in New York City. She is an actress, political activist, writer, fitness expert, and model. In the 1960s Jane gained fame in the film Barbarella and with the hugely popular Cat Ballou. Jane has two Academy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award. She retired from acting in 1991, but returned in 2005 with Monster in Law and Georgia Rule.
Jane opposed the Vietnam War and her activities were high controversial. She protested the Iraq War, violence against women and is described as a feminist. In 2005 Jane, Gloria Steinem and Robin Morgan founded the Women's Media Center which is an organization working to amplify the voices of women in the media. In 2005 she published her autobiography and in 2011 her second memoir, Prime Time was published.
Jane began acting in 1954 in a charity performance of The Country Girl. She played on stage in the late 1950s but the 1960s advanced her movie career. She filmed Period of Adjustment and Walk on the Wild Side in 1962 and earned a Golden Globe for Walk on the Wild Side. In 1969 Jane filmed They Shoot Horses, Don't They which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Jane's first Oscar for Best Actress was in 1971 for Klute. Jane Fonda's second Oscar was in 1978 was for Coming Home. The end of the 1970s Jane acted only in important issue films. She made The China Syndrome in 1979 and The Electric Horseman also in 1979. The 1980s saw Jane in Nine to Five and On Golden Pond. In 1985 she played Dr. Martha Livingston in Agnes of God and The Morning After. She appeared in Stanley & Iris in 1990 and left acting for 15 years. She returned to acting by participating in stage plays and foreign films. In 2013 she was First Lady Nancy Reagan in The Butler.
Jane was married to Roger Vadim in 1965 and they had a daughter Vanessa. In 1973 she married liberal Tom Hayden. They had one son Troy Hayden. Her third husband was Ted Turner in 1991. Since 2009 Jane has been in a relationship with Richard Perry.
