Eleanor Geisman aka June Allyson was born on October 7, 1917 in the Bronx, New York. June was the prototype of the girl next door with her sweet smile and great disposition. She was raised in poverty in the Bronx and was in a back brace for four years. She began to swim and study dance and June entered dance contest after high school.
June won several roles in musical short films. She was on Broadway in the musical Sing Out the News. June understudied Betty Hutton in Panama Hattie. She did such a good job that she was cast in Best Foot Forward. Her last film was in 1972 They Only Kill Their Masters.
With her smoky voice and sweet disposition June was signed to make many comedies and musical for MGM. June was a box office attraction and acted with many major stars. In 1945 she married Dick Powell and they stayed married until January 2, 1963 when he died. June and Dick had 2 children. She then married Alfred Glenn Maxwell from 1963 until 1965 when they divorced for the first time. They again married in 1966 until 1970. June then married David Ashrow in 1976 until her death on July 8, 2006.
