Renee Kathleen Zellweger was born on April 25, 1969 in Katy, Texas. She was interested in acting in high school and took acting classes at the University of Texas in Austin. She continued acting after graduation and decided to stay in Texas. She had roles in Reality Bites in 1994 and Empire Records in 1995
She played in Love and a .45 in 1994 and gained enough confidence to move to Los Angeles. She had a part in The Whole Wide World in 1996 and auditioned for Jerry McGuire in 1996. She won the role, played in several low budget films after that and played opposite Meryl Streep in One True Thing in 1998. She starred in Me, Myself & Irene in 2000. She played in Nurse Betty in 2000 and won a Golden Globe. Renee was in Bridget Jones's Diary in 2001 and received an Academy Award nomination.
Renee was in the musical Chicago in 2002 and garnered a second Oscar nomination. Rene played Ruby Thewes in Cold Mountain in 2003 and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Her part in Chicago required singing and dancing and she had no experience in either. She learned by watching Catherine Zeta-Jones and went through a training regime of coal coaching and dance training for 10 months.
