Born September 19, 1948 Jeremy Irons' smooth voice, well-spoken demeanor and brooding attitude generally cast him as a haunted aristocrat or an incredibly evil protagonist.
Irons was educated at the Sherborne and began his life of entertainment in a band called the Four Pillars of Wisdom. He attempted to get into veterinary school but failed; he changed to acting and began his classical training at Bristol Old Vic. His musical abilities lead him to a part in the 1972 London production of Godspell. He sang with David Bowie and his accolades for his John the Baptist portrayal won him a place in the London Theater scene.
Irons was a regular in Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited and his portrayal of Charles Ryder won him critical acclaim both in England and in America. The 1990s saw Jeremy Irons in The Man in the Iron Mask and The House of Spirits and Damage. In 1994 Iron was the evil voice of Scar in Disney's The Lion King and he played a sinister terrorist in Die Hard with a Vengeance in 1995.
In the 2000's Irons appeared with Al Pacino in The Merchant of Venice and had a part in the comedy Being Julia. He played a major role in the big budget film Kingdom of Heaven alongside Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson. Irons worked with Helen Mirren in Elizabeth I and was awesome in the fantasy action film Eragon. He acted in David Lynch's Inland Empire.
Current works from Jeremy Irons includes the 2008 western Appaloosa and the 2011 narration of The Last Lions. He currently plays Pope Alexander VI in the historical drama series The Borgias.
Irons lives in England with his wife Sinead Cusack and two sons. To date he has no reason to live in Hollywood.
