The lead singer of Queen, Farrokh Bomi Bulsara was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania on September 5, 1946. He and his family moved to England and Freddie Mercury started his education the Ealing College of Art. He graduated in 1969 and played in a band called Smile. Mercury's friend left the band in 1970 and Mercury became the lead singer. The band's name was changed to Queen and their first album Queen came out in 1973. Their breakthrough song was Killer Queen on the album Sheer Heart Attack in 1974. The single Bohemian Rhapsody was on the1975 A Night at the Opera album and they were off and running.
Queen's next few albums bombed out, but their single with David Bowie Under Pressure was a hit. In 1984 Queen was back with The Works. It contained Radio Ga Ga and I Want to Break Free. In 1985 Mercury made a solo album Mr. Bad Guy, but it did not do so well.
In 1985 they began working on A Kind of Magic and held a worldwide tour. They performed at Wembley Stadium twice and their last concert was in front of 125,000 people. Things settled down for Queen and Mercury revealed he had AIDS. Mercury continued making music and his next solo album The Great Pretender was released in 1987. He made the album Barcelone with Montserrat Caballe and their single Barcelona was used as the theme song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
In 1989 Queen made The Miracle as their hits Breakthru, I Want it All and The Invisible Man were hits. Mercury's final video clip was released in 1991 and These Are the Days of Our Lives was his goodbye song. Freddie Mercury's death on November 24, 1991 in Kensington, London, England from AIDS was a loss to the music world.
