Robin Williams

Born Robin McLaurin Williams in Chicago, Illinois on July 21, 1951, Robin Williams is a master at comedy acting, and making people feel good. He looked into political science in advance of registering at Juilliard School to learn theater. He left Julliard and performed standup comedy in nightclubs. He was discovered by Hollywood television producers and was marked for the role of Mork on Happy Days in 1974. He then went to star in Mork & Mindy in1978.
He is huge at improvisation and is an awesome dramatic actor. To prove his dramatic skills, Williams was awarded an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Good Will Hunting in 1997. Robin is known for his unique talent at imitating voices and often plays the parts of people lacking in self-awareness. He usually plays men who have suffered a trauma or loss and often is shown with mental instability. In 1997 Williams was ranked as the funniest man alive by Entertainment Weekly.
While auditioning for the role of Mork, Williams was told to sit down by the producer. Williams sat on his head. He was immediately hired. In his role as Mork on Mork & Mindy in 1978 Williams ad-libbed so many times the producers specifically left gaps for his improvisations. Most of Williams' speaking parts in Aladdin (1992) are ad-libbed.
Williams has lent his voice to FernGully in1992, Aladdin in 1992, Alladin and the King of Thieves in 1996, Robots in 2005, Happy Feet 2006 and Happy Feet Two in 2011.
Movies Williams has excelled in include Man of the Year in 2006 and Night at the Museum also in 2006. August Rush in 2007 and in The Fisher King in 1991 and the World's Greatest Dad in 2009 (appeared nude). Williams can also be seen in In Search for Dr. Seuss in 1994, Hamlet in 1996 and Fathers' Day in 1997. He worked with Frank Welker in A Wish for Wings that Work in 1991, Jumanji in 1995.
Williams was married to Valerie Velardi from June 1978 until December 1988. They divorced and had one child. He married Marsha Garces Williams in 1989 and they divorced in 2010 leaving 2 children. Presently he is married to Susan Schneider. As a child Williams was overweight and learned various voices to entertain himself.
