Paul Simon

Paul Frederic Simon (born October 13, 1941) is a musician and singer plus a songwriter. He was part of the duo Simon & Garfunkel formed in 1964. Simon wrote the music to The Sound of Silence, Bridge over Troubled Water and Mrs. Robinson. In 1970 the duo split and Simon began a career as a solo artist. He released Graceland, One-Trick Pony (film 1980) and helped write the roadway musical The Capeman (1998).
Simone has earned twelve Grammys and the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and was selected as someone who shaped the world by Time Magazine in 2006. Paul Simon was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Music from Berklee College of Music where he is on the Board of Trustees.
At the age of 11, Simon and Art Garfunkel performed in Alice in Wonderland for their sixth grade class and began singing when they were 13. They performed at school dances and they imitated the Everly Brothers. Simon wrote The Girl for Me for the two to sing. Simons' father wrote the words and chords on paper and this is the first official copyright Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel Song. In 1964 Clive Davis signed Simon and Garfunkel to a contract and called them "Simon & Garfunkel". Their first album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. was a flop.
Simon moved to the UK where he toured coffee houses and folk clubs. He met Kathy Chitty who was his inspiration for Kathy's Song, America and many others. He also wrote Red Rubber Ball plus Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. Simon's The Sound of Silence went #1 on the U.S. pop charts and Simon reunited with Garfunkel. They recorded Sounds of Silence, Bookends, Bridge over Troubled Water and Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. They also contributed to the soundtrack listed in The Graduate.
You will recognize Mother and Child Reunion, Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, Kodachrome, Loves me like a Rock, and Still Crazy After All These Years. Simon recorded 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover which was his only single to reach #1 on the Billboard charts. From 1977 to 1985 Simon was less productive, but he wrote music for Shampoo and compiled his album Greatest Hits, Etc., plus wrote and performed Slip Slidin' Away.
Simon continued to write and produce albums and he changed up his music style. In 2009 he reunited with Art Garfunkel and toured with Garfunkel in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. He released So Beautiful or So What in 2011 and reported that this was his best work in 20 years. Simon performed at the funeral of Victoria Leigh Sota a teacher killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 and he continues to teach, produce and record.
Simon has been married three times. Once to Peggy Harper n 1969. They have a son. Second he was married to Carrie Fisher. His song Hearts and Bones is about this marriage. They were divorced after one year of marriage but reunited several times over the years. In 1992 Simon married Edie Brickell and they have three children.
