Born on December 16, 1963, Benjamin Bratt is best known for his roles on Law & Order and in the movies Miss Congeniality, Demolition Man, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (voice) and Private Practice, a television series.
Bratt's heritage includes his mother's background as a Peruvian Native activist for the Quechua traditional group. He participated in the 1969 Native American occupation of Alcatraz and is still an active support of Native American causes. He narrates We Shall Remain a mini-series discussing Native American history. He has acted in films directed by Peter Bratt, his brother that include the 1996 films Follow Me Home, La Mission and Mission District.
Bratt's best known role is playing Detective Reynaldo Curtis on the hit television series Law & Order. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in this series (1999). He has voiced the part of El Macho in Despicable Me 2 and can also be heard in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.
In 1998 he dated Julia Roberts (his co-star in Miss Congeniality) and escorted her to the 2001 Academy Awards ceremony where she received best actress awards. They dissolved their companionship in 2001. He married actress Talisa Soto in April 2002 and they have two children.
