Coco Chanel

Fashion designer Coco Chanel was born on August 18, 1993 in France. She is famous for her little black dresses, her trademark suits and her perfumes. She briefly was a singer before Coco opened her fist shop in 1910. She launched her perfume in 1920 and introduced the Chanel suit.
Chanel was born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel in Saumur France. She was a style icon known for her sophisticated outfits that were paired with awesome accessories. Chanel claimed that luxury must be comfortable. Her early years were in an orphanage. She was raised by nuns who taught her to sew. This skill lead to her life's work. Her nickname Coco came from her brief career as a singer.
At the age of 20 Chanel became involved with Etienne Balsan who helped her start a millinery business in Paris. She left him for Arthur Capel. She started selling hats and added stores in Deauville and Biarritz and began making clothes. Her first clothing success came from a dress she made out of an old jersey. She offered to make dresses for people and her career took off.
In the 1920s Chanel launched her perfume Chanel No. 5. It was the first perfume to bear the name of the designer. In 1925 she presented her fabulous Chanel suit designed without a collar and a fitted skirt. He designed revolutionized the fashion industry by using elements of men's wear and highlighting comfort.
She designed the little black dress and proved that a mourning color could be chic for evening. Chanel was also popular in the literary and artistic worlds. Chanel designed costumes for the Ballets Russes and for the play Orphee. Pablo Picasso and Cocteau were among her friends.
At the outbreak of WWIII Chanel shut down her business. She was involved with a German military officer which caused some to view her relationship as a betrayal of her country. Chanel left Paris and lived in Switzerland and in Roquebrun.
Chanel returned to the fashion world at the age of 70. Her feminine an easy fitting designs won over shoppers and her conduct during WWII was forgotten. Coco Chanel died on January 10, 1971. Her company still continues the Chanel legacy and generates hundreds of million in sales every year. Chanel never married.
