Catherine Deneuve

Catherine Fabienne Dorleac was born October 22, 1943 in Paris France. Her parents were both actors and she made her movie debut in The Twilight Girls at the age of 13 (1957). She continued to make movies with minor part in small films. Her breakthrough came with The Umbrellas of Cherbourg in 1964. She was awesome as a romantic middle class girl who falls in love with a soldier. She then played in The Young Girls of Rochfort in 1967. Deneuve was a schizophrenic killer in Repulsion in1965 and then a married woman in Belle de Jour in 1967. He career lapsed for a bit until The Last Metro in 1980 and the drama Indochine in 1992. She earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for this part.
Deneuve is always elegant and is known as one of the grandes dames of French cinema. Deneuve is known for her gorgeous blonde hair and heavy cigarette smoking. She was chosen by Empire magazine in 1995 as one of the 100 sexiest stars in film history and is an archetype for Gallic beauty.
Deneuve has never performed on stage since she has severe stage fright. She played in Belle de Jour in 1967, Heartbeat in 1968 and Mississippi Mermaid in 1969. Yves Saint-Laurent's dressed her and called her his muse.
Deneuve designs glasses, shoes, greeting cards and jewelry. She is also a member of the international jury of the Shanghai Television festival. Her performance in Belle de Jour in 1967 is ranked as #59 on Premiere Magazine 100 greatest performances of all time.
She made five movies with Marcello Mastroianni that included Love to Eternity in 1972 and Don't Touch the White Woman in 1974. Deneuve is one of 12 French actresses to have received Academy Award nominations.
Deneuve was married to David Bailey in August 1965. They divorced in 1972. She had a son with Christian Vadim and a daughter with Marcello Mastroianni. She currently lives in France and is grandmother to eight children.
