Born on June 19, 1954 in Springfield, Missouri Mary Kathleen Turner spent her school years at the American School in London. When her family moved back to the U.S. Kathleen enrolled at Missouri State University and then at University of Maryland Baltimore County. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and plunged into acting.
Kathleen's first film was Body Heat in 1981. She played Matty Waker and her success in one of the sexiest roles in film brought her immediate success. Kathleen went on to perform in The Man with Two Brains in 1983, Romancing the Stone in 1984 and The Jewel of the Nile in 1985. She was very good in Prizzi's Honor in 1985 and Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986. Kathleen's performance in The War of The Roses in 1989 was spectacular and Serial Mom in 1994 was a film made just for her.
Kathleen is known for her husky and seductive voice and her ability to perform her own stunts in Undercover Blues in 1993 and V.I. Warshawski in 1991. She is the voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit in 1988.
Kathleen was nominated for a Tony Award in 1990 as Best Actress in a play for her performance as Maggie the Cat in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She was also nominated in 2005 for a Tony Award for playing Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (2005).
Kathleen's career went into decline in 1992 when she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was unable to move quickly and the medications she took began to change her appearance. She has been I remission since 2006.
Kathleen was married to Jay Weiss from August 1984 until 2007 when they divorced. They have one child Rachel Weiss who is an actress.
