Born on November 8, 1935 in France Alain Delon had a very unhappy childhood and was often expelled from school. He grew up and was a paratrooper with the French Marines in Indochina. He worked at various jobs that included salesman, porter and waiter. He decided to go for an acting career and in 1957 his first film was Send a Woman When the Devil Fails.
He received recognition for his part in Rocco and His Brother in 1960 and in 1961 he starred in the stage play Tis a Pity She's a Whore. He formed his own production company Adel Film and began producing movies. Delon began his directing career with Pour la peau d'un flic in 1981.
Delon was extremely good looking but he was also a "bad" boy. He played lovers and romantic heroes and was compared to James Dean. He was highly successful in the role of Tom Ripley in Purple Noon in 1960. He acted in many films in Italy and returned to the criminal venue in Any Number Can Win in 1963. In 1967 he was a psychopathic hoodlum in Le Samourai. He was in the bloody Borsalin in 1970 which he also produced. He won acclaim for his roles in Mr. Klein in 1976 and Swann in Love in 1984.
He received the Legion d'Honneur for his career in 1991. Interesting, Delon originally wanted to be a butcher. Now he has his own perfume called AD, as well as wines, clothes, watches, Cognac, and glasses. He won a Cesar for Notre histoire (Our Story) in 1985.
Delon was married to Nathalie Delon from 1964 until 1969 when they divorced. They had one child. He was married to Rosalie van Breemen from 1987 to 2001 when they divorced. They had two children. Delon also has a child from an affair with a model.
