Robert Peter Williams born on February 13, 1974 is an English songwriter-singer and actor. He sings with the pop group Take That, but is better as a solo artist. Williams left Take That in 1995 and began his solo career. His first seven albums reached number one in the UK.
On July 15, 2010 Williams returned to Take That and their albums began to sell. Williams continues to be a part of Take That and plus his solo career. Williams has sold over 70 million records worldwide and is listed as one of the top bestselling British solo artists in the UK. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for selling 1.6 million tickets for his Close Encounters Tour in a single day. He has seventeen BRIT Awards and seven ECHO Awards plus Robbie is included in the UK Music Hall of Fame and has been voted as the Greatest Artist of the 1990s.
Williams battled substance abuse, alcoholism, obesity and mental illness. To help him overcome his issues Elton John booked him into a clinic to help with his drug use and depression. In 2006 Williams was a part of the documentary Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive to discuss his mental issues. Williams has a very strong interest in UFOs and paranormal phenomena and claims to have seen UFOs three times.
Williams is married to Ayda Field and they have a daughter Theodora Rose. Williams owns a charity to improve local conditions and strengthen community life. He gives money to disadvantaged and raises money for UNICEF UK. He is a patron of the children's charity the Donna Louise Trust that offers respite care to terminally children.
