Declination

The angular distance measured in degrees north and south of the CELESTIAL EQUATOR defined as 00. The Sun reaches maximum declination of 23degrees27 ' at the summer and winter SOLSTICES and 00 or no declination at the EQUINOXES when it passes from south to north and back again - i.e. crosses the equator. Distance north of the equator is measured positive, south negative.
