Upper Culmination

Same as upper meridian - the point at which any given heavenly body or point reaches its highest point after rising in the east and before setting in the west. Upper Culmination (or Transit) refers to the crossing closest to the observer's zenith; Lower Culmination refers to the crossing farthest from the observer's zenith. Both culminations can be seen only for circumpolar stars.
