A costume is known for doing one thing and one thing only, disguising you. Of course there are a hundred different reasons that you might want to use a costume, but in the end all of these different uses basically apply to the same thing. You need a way of making sure that nobody notices your appearance, so you put them on and then you don't have to be yourself anymore or you can go on looking like someone else to fool a person or a group of people. What do all of these costume traits have to do with the dream world of costumes though? Well, that will be discussed too.
As stated above, the only reason you would wear a costume is to disguise yourself in some way, but there are two primary ways that a costume can help you do that, and each one of them will have a different dream interpretation. If you have a dream in which you are wearing a costume then this could mean that you do not feel comfortable in your own skin. You are trying to hide yourself from someone else or from multiple people. In this kind of dream it rarely even matters what kind of costume you're wearing. The point is you're trying to be something that you're not or trying to fool other people into thinking that you're someone that you're not just so that you don't have to be yourself. This may work for some time in the real world, but sooner or later someone is going to find out who you are or someone is going to pinpoint your personality and by the time that happens, it will all be too late. You can't hide yourself forever, so you might as well not try.
If you have a dream in which you are wearing a costume it could also be something even sadder than that. You could be wearing the costume in your dreams because you think that you need to be someone or something else in order to impress other people. You need to hide behind something else in order to really be who you want to be and it doesn't work too well.
If you have a dream in which everyone else is wearing a costume except you, this is because you think that you are the only one that is really being real in your life at the moment. There are other people that are just not being true to themselves or true to you, at least as far as you can see. You are trying to be as open and honest as possible to help counteract that attitude, but your process is having mixed results at best. Maybe you should just don a costume too so then the world would really be at a balance.
The costume is a thing which people generally try to use to hide behind when they are embarrassed of themselves or ashamed of themselves. This is never a good thing and it is never a good attitude to have. If you think that you feel like you are hiding behind a costume then you need to come out from under it and show people your true nature.
I was in a competition in my kitchen where I had to hit a ruler against things to a specific melody that I have been singing a lot. I was wearing a pink dress and a blonde curly wig similar to a character from a horror game. My ruler was a bendy purple ruler that didn't sound right to me when I was hitting it, but I had to get perfect points, and therefore couldn't tell anyone because there was a lot of pressure. I completely messed the first part up, not even hitting it to the proper song, in which the 'host' lady told me the highest she would rate that would be a 5/100. I continued trying, the ruler folding back and making everything very difficult as I picked up my phone and hit the ruler against that to try to make the correct sound, but that only made large dents in my phone. I internally panicked, but didn't have time to do anything else, so I finished the jingle and my dream ended.

Here is an analysis based on common themes present in your described dream:
1. Performance Anxiety: Being in a competition suggests there might be a part of your life in which you are feeling judged or where you are putting pressure on yourself to perform well. This could be related to work, personal skills, or even social situations.
2. Perfectionism and Fear of Failure: The need to hit a specific melody perfectly with the ruler to get perfect points might symbolize a fear of not meeting expectations or a striving for perfection in some area of your life.
3. Improvisation and Adaptation: The bending ruler that doesn't produce the desired sound could represent unexpected challenges you’re facing. Using your phone to try to make the correct sound further points to attempts at improvisation and making the best of a difficult or ill-suited situation.
4. Damage Control: The dents in your phone could indicate a worry that your attempts to adapt or make things work are causing other problems or damages that will need to be addressed.
5. Identity or Self-Perception Issues: Wearing a costume, especially one that resembles a character from a horror game, could symbolize a feeling of being out of place or pretending to be something you are not. It may also suggest exploring different aspects of your identity or feeling like you are not showing your authentic self to others.
6. Judgment and Criticism: The 'host' lady giving you a low score could represent internal or external criticism you're experiencing. It may reflect your inner critic being harsh on your own performance or anxiety about how others perceive your efforts.
7. Communication Struggles: Your inability to tell anyone about the incorrect sound the ruler makes could suggest difficulties in expressing your concerns or challenges to others. This might be a fear of asking for help or a feeling that you have to deal with problems on your own.
To understand what this dream means, consider your waking life experiences and current emotions. Are you facing new challenges or feeling out of your element in some area? Are you worried about the judgment of others or placing high demands on yourself? Are there situations where you feel you are 'putting on an act' or not being true to who you are?

I was at a halloween school play. I was sitting on gray bleachers surrounded by people and as a skit, there were about 10 people who were dressed up as the grim reaper. 2 of them were ghosts and they were circling the bleachers and their purpose was to scare us. most people weren't scared, but I got the shivers whenever they were behind me because I was in the back of the bleachers and for some reason they creeped me out. But I knew they were just guy students for the school play and none of them hurt me. I was just creeped out by them. Does this mean anything harmful? it's not like the grim reaper was actually there.
