In fact in our culture hearing loss is becoming something that is even more and more likely day by day for everyone because of the amount of ambient noise and harmful noise that follows us all around. Thus, because it is such a great fear there are many reasons why a person might dream about deafness.
Deafness in itself is a very concrete symbol in terms of how it is seen not only in dreams but in all kinds of other representations. It has a very strong and well prescribed meaning that it cannot be easily stripped of. One of the most important things about the term deaf is how it can be applied to just about anything. You can be deaf to another's words without actually being literally deaf. Basically the point is, you need to realize that there are a lot of reasons why you might dream of deafness but the main ones are quite common.
If you have a dream in which you are going deaf, this is meant to bring about the idea that you are closing yourself off to outside influence. Others are trying to tell you something but you are ignoring them and making things a lot more difficult. This is causing you a lot of problems in life. You can't simply ignore the input of others especially if that input is correct. You need to learn to take criticism in stride and simply roll with what others tell you even if it does seem to be offensive at first.
To dream that someone you love is suffering from deafness may mean that you are not making your true feelings about anything known to them. You need to be more honest and upfront with the way you feel about certain situations and the way that you feel about them. They would greatly appreciate your honesty and your ability to tell them what is really on your mind. It is an important characteristic. They aren't failing to hear it because of their own problem though; they are failing to hear it because you are failing to share. Buck up the courage and tell them how you feel. This is important stuff.

Dreams featuring the symbol of deafness often have a variety of meanings that can be interpreted based on the context and the dreamer's life. Here are some common dream interpretations related to the symbol of deafness:
1. Communication Barriers: Deafness in dreams can represent communication challenges in your waking life. It might suggest that there is a lack of understanding or an inability to effectively express yourself or listen to others. It could also indicate feelings of being ignored or overlooked by those around you.
2. Ignoring a Problem: A dream where you or someone else is deaf might symbolize denial or avoidance. It could suggest that you're refusing to hear something important or that you're ignoring warnings or advice. This might be a prompt from your subconscious to confront an issue rather than avoid it.
3. Isolation: Deafness may also represent feelings of isolation or separation. You may feel disconnected from the social environment or relationships around you, or you might feel like an outsider unable to participate in or understand conversations or events.
4. Need for Inner Peace: Sometimes, deafness in a dream can symbolize a desire for quiet or respite from a noisy and overwhelming environment. It may indicate a need for solitude to clear your mind or to focus inward for introspection.
5. Missed Opportunities: Being deaf in a dream might mean missing out on important opportunities due to a lack of awareness or preparedness. It's possible your subconscious is urging you to be more alert or to pay closer attention to what is happening around you.
6. Emotional Numbness: Deafness in a dream could also be a metaphor for emotional numbness. You might be shutting out your emotions, refusing to deal with your feelings, or distancing yourself from emotional connections.
7. Intuition Ignored: Not being able to hear in a dream might suggest you're not listening to your intuition or inner voice. The dream might be encouraging you to trust your instincts and heed your inner guidance.
8. Loss or Fear of Losing Control: If you become deaf in a dream, it might reflect a fear of losing control in some aspect of your life, or actual experiences of loss such as the end of a relationship or career change.
As with all dreams, the specific interpretation of deafness will depend upon your personal experiences, current life circumstances, and feelings during the dream. To accurately discern what the symbol means to you, it can be helpful to look at the broader context of the dream and consider what issues in your waking life might be reflected in it.

Hmmm dreamt I was going deaf in one ear but what it meant is in real life I am actually losing my hearing in my left ear and was drawing attention that I need to do something about it, dr was asking me about it in dream and I pointed out I previously was dxd with a loss of 450 kHz in left ear, has been noticeable lately as I have to continuously ask my son to repeat himself, no hidden meanings just that I am defo going deaf ( no puns intended).

I had a dream of meeting a known deaf person who was offering me help to join his black pick up vehicle but I refused because he was rather going to ply the long route. The location appeared to be a former village I once lived.

I had a similar dream I just woke up from about 15 minutes ago. I became curious as to what it may have meant so here I am in this darn forum. I dreamed I was dead and voiceless at the same time. I freaked out and said "fu$&@ this, I'm out" and woke up.
