There is no question that the need to express one's self as an individual can become a difficult task on a daily basis. On the other hand, getting a tattoo is often looked upon as a distinctive experience that helps define a person in many different ways. This is just one of many reasons why tattoos featured in a dream can indicate a need for more effective means of self expression. If you are able to remember the design of th tattoo, this may also give you some indicators about where you are feeling repressed or challenged.
Tattoo Dream General Meaning
Overall, dreams of tattoos are an indicator that you may be having problems expressing yourself as an individual. Depending on the design of the tattoo, you may be able to narrow down which area you are most concerned about. For example, if you dream of getting a tattoo featuring a red rose, then you may want to see if you are feeling repressed in your love life. On the other hand, if you dream of some type of animal, or a symbol representing money, then you can look to those areas of your life instead.
How Tattoo Dream Symbol May Fit in Your Life
No matter whether the issues come from people in your life, various situations, or a lack of understanding about alternative options, you should look for ways to remedy the situation as soon as possible. Depending on your outlook, you may even find that getting a tattoo may be an ideal first step that will lead to others across time. On the other hand, if you understand where the snags are in your life, more direct methods may be more appropriate.
A Sample Tattoo Dream Interpretation
Consider a situation where you dream that your arms are covered with tattoos of snakes and roses. As you look for an empty spot, you also contemplate what kind of new design might be appealing. Finally, you decide that you want a tattoo of a lion. During the process of studying the designs, you elect to choose a female lion sitting with a cub.
In this particular dream, the fact that you already have a number of tattoos indicates that you have been suffering from issues related to lack of personal expression for some time. Since many of the tattoos are snakes and roses, you can safely conclude that the problems are associate with sexuality as well as other aspects of your love life. This is further confirmed by choosing a lion and cub for your next tattoo
If you look carefully at the snake and lion symbols, you will find that they both symbolize power. In this case, you may find that you often feel helpless in romantic situations, or that your partner has too much control over the relationship. Rather than let this go on, you may be well served by taking small steps towards being more expressive about how you feel. That said, if you tend to wind up in arguments that produce more harm than good, you may want to take some classes or workshops dedicated to communication skills. At the very least, once you start thinking about what you want in your relationship, and how that relates to personal expression, you will have a better chance of resolving any issues indicated by the presence of tattoos in your dream landscape.

I had a dream last night that I was with my newly deceased son (25 years old...has been gone 7 weeks) and a group of his friends at a tattoo parlor. He got a tattoo of a snake on his left arm, going down the length of his inner arm. He didnt have any of his old tattoos. The snake didnt look like any I know but once I started looking up pictures, it looks like a worm snake. It had rounded ends instead of the flat or pointed nose and normal tail tip. The tattoo parlor itself was not what you would think of as a tattoo shop. The two tattoo artists were older (70ish), chunky white guys with with white hair and beards. For some reason I assumed they were Jewish but not really due to their looks...just a feeling I had. The artists themselves had no visible tattoos or piercings.

My first one is on my neck, directly below my ear. I got it when I was 18 on my first trip without my parents, I was in Thai. It was a little scary as the artist and I didn't even speak the same language but I'm so glad I did it. The meaning has changed for me since I got it. Originally it meant that I would direct my own life and that I could go where I wanted to go. Later it became a reminder to me that no matter what I was doing I was going somewhere, so to make sure that I was headed in the right direction.

My dream was strange. I was hovering or above this woman, almost as if I was looking over and she was trapped and I was being aggressive with her, almost beastly. I didn't see the tattoos being done. I "woke up" in my dream and I saw a multitude of tattoos all over my body, and my cousin was there and we were talking about why they were there. And then I recalled the woman and knew that she had done these. And I said to my cousin that I didn't want them.

In my dream, some dude was tattooing my leg with flowers. But when he finished, I observed my leg and the had covered my old tattoo (which I don't have) that were also flowers. But this new unexpected cover up was not done "right", it had a lot of black ink in the back of my leg, and was just incomplete. My mom got angry at me for getting another tattoo andthen... The guy that I have feelings for appeared and told me: don't worry, I'll help you fix it. I felt calmed in my dream and as I saw him grab the gun to finish the tattoo. I would really like help interpreting this...

I dreamed last night that I just finished getting a tattoo with someone [i couldn't remember who this person is, just that she was a girl but in my dream i knew her and she was a friend], I had two tattoos in that dream [I have none irl] , a chain necklace tattoo on my neck and a long textual tattoo on the left side of my chest [it seemed more like a whole paragraph to me in big bold font with at least three lines in it]. In my dream, the one on my chest seems to be the new one I just got and I was examining it in the mirror and I saw that there was a punctuation error, vowing to get the same fixed. As to the content of the textual tattoo, I only remember that there should be a comma before the "he takes care of her" in the tattoo. Also I hurriedly put on my shirt back and closed the collar when I heard my mom coming up the stairs because I knew she would be mad If she saw them.
Do you think you can think of an interpretation for my dream?
