In Solar astrology, we take into account the 12 signs of the zodiac and the revolution of the earth around the sun. This gives us 12 zodiac signs for which we continuously see predictions in newspapers and websites. However, consider the fact that we are over 6 billion people on planet earth so there must be something more that determines our destiny vis a vis planetary movements.
Vedic astrology gives some insights into that by taking into account the lunar cycles as well. The moon moves through each zodiac sign for about 2 and a half days in a month i.e. the moon completes one full cycle of 12 zodiac signs in 1 month with its waxing and waning movements. Also around this orbit of the lunar cycle, there exist 27 stars called as follows
As you can see, as per lunar astrology, already the different personalities have been factored for in a systematic way rather than just a superstitious belief. By the way as far as solar zodiac signs are concerned, lunar astrology completely agrees with the divisions and does not put much emphasis on the recent news in 2010 that an additional planet was discovered.
So 12 zodiac signs as per western astrology and the same 12 zodiac signs as per lunar astrology as well with the difference being that the lunar zodiac signs change every 2.5 days (approximately). Add to this the 27 stars that determine a person's sign, mathematically, lunar astrology in the first chapter itself has made provision for 12 x 12 x 27 x 4 [because each star has 4 divisions] and about 15552 basic categories of analyzing personalities exist.
Is it any surprise then that Vedic Astrology is gaining far more popularity than the conventional western astrology? In the next 3 to 4 articles, we shall cover the basic factors of constructing a vedic astrological chart and what vedic astrologers do to analyze these charts.
