Sagittarius Characteristics

As far as the intrepid Archer is concerned, the world is one giant playground. Sagittarius blissfully spends its time buzzing from one adventure to another like a bee to a flower. Needless to say, the Archer doesn’t give much thought to the more serious (and boring as far as the Archer is concerned) portions of life. All that exists to Sagittarius is the current moment, the past is forgotten and the future far too hazy to inspire much interest.

With such a footloose nature, the Archer is necessarily quite independent and cares little for what others might think or say. No one would call Sagittarius overly sensitive. In fact, the optimistic Archer is quite determined to think the best of everyone and every situation it comes across, which prevents much emotional turmoil for happy-go-lucky Sagittarius.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

Like the grasshopper in the old fable, Sagittarius loves to sing and play all day with very little thought of what might be coming it's way. It seems impossible to the Archer that things will ever change. Sagittarius has no expectations for the future, and it is this very flexibility that protects it from some of life’s worst bumps and bruises. The Virgin is the ant in this fable, working for the future but seldom stopping to have fun in the now. Both of these modes of living are unbalanced so when these two come together they can offer one another the missing piece that balances their respective lives.

“All work and no play” is a serious danger to conscientious Virgo. The Virgin can actually verge on martyrdom with its drive to be everything to everyone. The playful Archer will coax its Virgo mate out into the sunlight and show it how the other half lives. While the Virgin may be resistant to this at first, Virgo soon discovers it gets more work done after a refreshing rest in the company of cheerful Sagittarius. As time goes on, the Virgin is less and less resistant to new ideas and may even come up with some adventures for the couple to try all by itself. Since it gets easier rather than more difficult to convince Virgo to go along for the ride, there is no danger that Sagittarius will begin to consider bringing its Virgin mate along a disagreeable chore.

“All play and no work” is just as dangerous to the freewheeling Sagittarius. The Archer’s life is full of chaos and, although it deals with this well, Sagittarius is sometimes frustrated by the missed opportunities it suffers due to the lack of discipline and structure. In spending more time with the organized Virgo, the Archer learns that routine isn’t necessarily the drudgery it has always considered, but a way to make sure it gets the very best out of life.

All Work and No Play

If the Virgin and the Archer will meet in the middle, they can truly bring out the best in one another and both will benefit tremendously from their relationship. However, they are very different, and this can easily trip them up as they walk down the road of life together. Virgo’s tendency to try to control everything in its sphere is perhaps the biggest danger to this relationship. The Virgin is very conservative and sometimes the Archer’s wild notions fill it with anxiety. If this happens, Virgo will attempt to tame wild Sagittarius so the Virgin can get back into its comfort zone. The Archer is very fond of its freedom and won’t take it kindly if the Virgin attempts to curtail it.

Virgo, while not demonstrative at all, bonds deeply with its romantic partner and desires loyalty and commitment in a relationship. Sagittarius is much more casual in its relationships and this can cause friction between them. The Virgin will want to know explicitly the terms on which the two are connected while the Archer probably hasn’t even given it a thought. If Sagittarius isn’t ready to commit and Virgo continues to push for an answer, the Archer may decide it’s time to take a different path.

Building a Healthy Balance

Neither the “all play” life of Sagittarius nor the “all work” life of Virgo are particularly healthy. When this relationship works, the Archer helps the Virgin learn the value of playing when Virgo teaches Sagittarius that being organized and having a routine can actually lead to more fun. While this pair isn’t the most passionate, they make happy companions who grow more attached as time goes on. If the Virgin can resist its compulsion to control everything and the Archer will assure its mate of its commitment this pair will spend their lives in perfect balance.
